You can find summer’s most exciting garden here in Sundborn! Carl and Karin’s untamed garden, which came to be depicted in many of the couple’s artistic works, has finally been recreated for everyone to enjoy. After many years of research and preparation, the garden at Lilla Hyttnäs once more looks as it did when Carl, Karin and all their children lived here.
Come and enjoy the many fantastic flowers, the French-inspired kitchen garden, and the special self-designed garden furniture. Relax on the unique and original stone furnishings, which for many years lay hidden beneath layers of earth, and experience the beauty and playfulness of the Larsson family’s beloved garden.
Gain the most from your garden visit at Lilla Hyttnäs with help from the recently published garden book C K. Using this small book as a guide, you can find out how the houses on the estate were once used and what ideas Carl and Karin had as they created their garden over 100 years ago. Here too you can read about Carl’s ”stupid ornamental bushes”, the escaping crayfish, and the dramatic story about Karin’s aunts who lived on the estate in the 1880’s. The book also offers tips on how to recreate a Karin-flowerbed, how to arrange flowers à la Larsson, and how to prepare the family’s delicious French soup. (Please note this book is available in Swedish only.)
In the Kvarnen gallery this summer, you can meet the artist, trendsetter and style icon Karin Larsson – the wife of the great artist Carl Larsson, who was often one step ahead of her world-famous husband. Karin in the floral era is a delightfully colourful exhibition about how flowers, nature and the Arts & Crafts movement came to inspire Karin to create some of her time’s most original and personal textile pieces, which today are regarded as fantastically modern and are the inspiration for many of today’s designers.
